“Looking for Group” apps always face a battle on Kickstarter and always will until one of them nails it. Today, Rachel Dove, a queer gamer is taking on that challenge with Dungeons NOT Dating.
The matchmaking app works a bit like Tinder, except it’s dungeons, not dinner, dates, or those dungeons on offer and one backer could win a trip to a castle. You can see the challenge over on Kickstarter.
Rachel argues that adventures and escapism in TTRPGs have become more desirable and less accessible over the years. Do you disagree?
People first build a profile on the Dungeons NOT Dating app, noting person hobbies, interests, music and, of course, other games you might like to play. You can have a profile as a player, as a DM or one of each.
… how you like to play, what type of campaign you are looking for, how long you’d like to play for in each session and overall, etc… as well as selecting from some standard art for your character or uploading your own.
Backers who contribute $20 or more have a chance of winning entry to a castle (and accommodation) as a potential prize.
At $28, but locked to the USA, backers get an exclusive Dungeons NOT Dating t-shirt as a reward.
Then, at $50, backers get 6 months free on Dungeons NOT Dating which confirms that the app will a subscription fee model.
Backers at the $100 tier get a legacy account, which means one year free and a minimum set pricing thereafter forever.
There are higher tiers, though, such as the $150 for early access and $250 for access to the design team and a Legacy Account.
Those backers who super-keen on the castle escape can pledge $10,000 and secure it for themselves. The catch? There’s only one slot.
If the Kickstarter is successful, Rachel estimates a delivery date of August 2024. The campaign has until June 24th to climb the hill of a $35,000 goal.
