I chatted to Gwen Howard at UK Games Expo and signed up to their Kickstarter alert for Burnbourgh.
Burnbourgh is a city that stands while everything else burns, and you’re trying to remain hopeful in this capitalist hellscape. There’s a humble £200 pledge goal to bring this zine to life via Kickstarter.
The city of Burnbourgh survived the fall of the bombs and made it into the New Industrial Age, and you work to keep the city alive.
The TTRPG is rules light and based around the use of Memories. If you experience something horrible, then it eats away at your remaining good memories, edging you closer to despair.
Sam Armstrong, Creator of “All Bastard” and “Hello Wizard, I Have A Problem” said of Burnborough;
During our game, I got hit by the demon train of capitalism and it made me lose the memories of my ex. Burnborough gives old-school mechanics a meaningful, emotional core to make a unique game you won’t want to miss.”
I know that’s not a phone-in-a-quote as I talked to Sam, too, who had the stand next to Gwen, and they clearly knew Burnborough well.
Backers at £3 will get a PDF copy of the game.
Burnborough supporters who can step up to £8 will get a PDF and a physical zine. At £16, backers are adding community copies to the world.
The Burnborough Kickstarter runs until July 11th and Gwen estimates delivery in September 2024.
