Pendragon 6e was announced back in 2020, as Chaosium marked the second anniversary of Greg Stafford’s death. It’s out this week.
The TTRPG is set in medieval mythological England during the time of King Arthur, and Stafford considered it to be his masterpiece.
Chaosium has the 256-page PDF up on DriveThruRG for $24.99.
Pendragon is set amidst the glory and grandeur of King Arthur’s Britain. Its innovative mechanics drive the emotional impact of play as your characters pursue Glory, overcome life-and-death struggles, cross blades with ruthless enemies, and fight for love and justice in a world of brutal medieval realism.
These core rules have the complete world setting and game engine, including rules of Traits, Passions and Skills. There’s combat, injury and recovery plus Glory, Favors and Honor.
However, a review thread on DTRPG discusses the lack of battle rules and enemy statblocks and wonders whether these ‘core rules’ might be more of a ‘Player’s Handbook’.
In Pendragon characters age, marry and have children. When PCs die of harm or old age then their legacy continues with players taking the roles of the heirs.
These rules include a Coat of Arms generator so you can be sure your knight has their own unique heraldry.
Nicely, and along with David Larkins, Chaosium lists Greg Stafford as an author.
In addition to the core rules, Larry DiTillio’s 88-page campaign The Grey Knight has been released. The Grey Knight is compatible with the free-to-download Pendragon Quick-Start published in 2022.
