Shakesomespear Games is back on Kickstarter to crowdfund a standalone TTRPG called AniMort, set in a dangerous cartoon world.
Steamborg Willie is coming, says Shakesomespear, but I get Cuphead vibes too. You can see for yourself at the pitch page.
Mork Borg is a rules-lite, black metal, OSR tabletop game where death is coming. While Mork Borg is a key inspiration and rule-base here, in AniMort you can’t really die… as Mort won’t let you.
Instead, you have to escape.
Characters are toons trapped in an animated show called “Mort & Friends”.
The Kickstarter will fund new character classes, new monsters and death mechanics for Mork Borg players.
There are also 4th wall breaking mechanics in AniMort, and since characters are toons who cannot die, there are The Bent Table and Misery Tables to represent what happens to them in this hellish parody world.
Lastly, AniMort has two styles of play – The Silent Era and The Talkies.
Backers at $12 get the PDF edition of AniMort and access to add-ons.
At $18, there’s a print-on-demand copy of the RPG as well as the PDF as a reward.
Supporters can pledge more and at $44 there’s also an STL of Mort, a poster and print on demand cards.
The top tier, at $100, adds in Testing Stress as a PDF and print-on-demand and other Shakesomespear Games games.
The PDF has a release date estimated at November 2024, and the print-on-demand copies in December. The Kickstarter runs until July 1st.
