The late James M Ward created Metamorphosis Alpha in 1976 and populated a generation starship with mutants and monsters.
Metamorphosis Alpha was a pioneering work in the science fiction RPG genre, predating even the well-known Gamma World. The game’s unique setting and gonzo post-apocalyptic themes have garnered a dedicated following over the years.
In 2014, Goodman Games successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign to produce a deluxe collector’s edition of the game. This latest release is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to revive classic RPG titles. The Bundle of Holding last had Metamorphosis Alpha on offer in 2021, and this deal runs until June 26th.

Ward was diagnosed with a significant neurological disorder in 2010, was the co-author of GiantLands by Wonderfilled, a project plagued by unpleasantness, and died in March 2024. There’s no connection between Goodman Games and Wonderfilled.
As we’d expect from a Goodman Games deal, some of the money raised by this bundle will go to support the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank.
