Magnetic Press Play, publishers of Carbon Grey and rejuivinators of West End Games’ D6 System, have landed a remarkable TTRPG license Planet of the Apes.
The campaign just raised $200,000, well above the asking target, and is six stretch goals in. You can see progress on Kickstarter.
Planet of the Apes is a different movie series in which apes evolve to become the dominant species and humankind de-evolves.
If you’re curious there’s a 25-page The Official Planet of the Apes RPG primer as a Pay What You Want on DriveThruRPG. Currently, that primer is a copper best seller and has a 4/5 star review.
As a spoiler, nearly two dozen people have pledged at least $1,000 each.
Magnetic Press Play will use the D6 system spawned from West End Games, the D6MV system. Andrew E.C. Gaska of Alien RPG is leading the project.
There are limited edition box sets and lots of models.
In a world turned upside down, civilized apes sit at the top of the evolutionary ladder, ruling over a population of primal humans. But this dominion will not go unchallenged. Wayward astronauts arrive to lead an uprising, questioning this madness and the events that led to this topsy-turvy, backward future. Political intrigue, societal conflict, and fantastical, dangerous mysteries abound on this planet ruled by apes!
Backers can buy into access to the Pledge Manager and some add-ons at $1. The digital copy is the first reward, which unlocks at the $25 tier.
The core rulebook as a hardcover joins the PDF at the $49 bracket, and at this point, the first wave of Planet of the Ape miniatures appear in the optional add-ons list.
The $60 tier is digital only; the core rules, the ANSA Files Sourcebook and the into the Forbidden Zone Adventure Module.
Miniatures are the whole tier at $69, with no TTRPG attached.
The core rules and physical Into the Forbidden Zone campaign toolkit with a digital copy of the core rules as a bonus are the $99 tier. Whereas at $112, the rewards are physical and PDF copies of the core rules and the ANSA Files Sourcebook.
The first limited edition slipcase set, the black and silver one with a numbered bookplate, joins the digital offerings at $150.
As you can read, there’s no shortage of tier combinations, and the Ruins of Tomorrow miniature set, digital and physical core rules and the Into the Forbidden Zone toolkit is the reward at $169.
Backers get the signed bookplate at $200 rather than the minis. At $250, the Ruins of Tomorrow miniature set rejoins the loot.
It’s then a big money hop to $500 and the Deluxe white and gold slipcase set, with a signed bookplate and a numbered bookplate with some digital copies. Alternatively, $500 gets a different combination of books and the Ruins of Tomorrow minis.
However, the top tier is $1000. Would anyone pay that much? Two dozen have! That adds the ANSA Time Capsule Storage Box, with the premium books and a host of minis.
The campaign ends on Saturday, July 13th, and Magnetic Press Play estimates a September 2024 delivery.
