Wizards of the Coast insists the next Dungeons & Dragons edition is not D&D 6e. The books we’re getting next are D&D 2024.
You can pre-order:
- D&D 2024 Player’s Handbook for Roll20, due Sep 17.
- D&D 2024 Dungeon Master’s Guide for Roll20, due Nov 12.
- D&D 2024 Monster Manual for Roll20, due Feb 18, 2025.
D&D fans who pre-order the whole D&D 2024 will also get a free copy of the Monster Manual Expanded Roll20 module. That normally costs $39.99. It’s not a D&D 2024 module, but both ‘editions’ are compatible, and the Monster Manual Expanded is rated 5/5 stars.
These are Roll20 modules, which, importantly, means you don’t get a download and instead beef up your virtual tabletop subscription. In addition to the Roll20 digital rulebook, these downloads include character sheets, character builders, play aids, and a token pack.
It’s a new character sheet, and today, it enters Alpha testing with Roll20 users. It has enhanced spell and inventory management, more customisation, and automation, and thankfully, it is compatible with both D&D 5e and D&D 2024.
Do we call D&D 5e, D&D 2014 now?
Beta testing of the new character sheet is slated to start in July, when the D&D character builder opens.
Steve Wieck, President of Roll20, told the press;
Having seen an advanced copy of the new D&D Player’s Handbook 2024, I can say that it really is the biggest and best version of D&D ever made. And as the most popular place to play Dungeons & Dragons online, Roll20 has dedicated itself to making sure we offer the best digital tools to support D&D 2024. Our new product teams have been re-inventing how to make D&D easier to play.”
