Embracing the merger of roll playing and roleplaying, Castle & Cruasdes is a twenty year old TTRPG. Now a Kickstarter for Castle & Cruasdes Reforged brings the revised and non-OGL version to the fore.
Troll Lord Games asked for $10,000 to fund, and with three weeks left to woo backers, they have almost $100,000 pledged. You can see progress on Kickstarter.
The game’s Siege Engine downplays the role of rules to avoid forcing one gameplay style on any group. It promises that new players can learn it in 15 minutes.
There are several books bundled into this Kickstarter and they include;
- Castles & Crusades Players Handbook
- Castles & Crusades Monsters & Treasure
- Castle Keepers Guide
- Beneath the Canopy Green – an adventure series Barsoon: A Pocket Atlas to the Dying Planet – one for John Carter fans with an introduction to the world, monsters and classes.
- Stretch goals
Castles & Crusades was first created in 2003/2004 and debuted in Christmas of that ’04. It was the first to use a simple attribute based system as its key mechanic. It predated and in many ways sparked the OSR publications that followed and heavily influenced D&D 5th edition. The core of this game has remained unchanged but for minor edits and a few revision. It has played the same all these years. Now with the revised non-OGL content, though it plays the same, even faster!
Backers at $5 get the Barsoom booklet in PDF and access to some add-ons.
At $25, the next supporter tier with a reward, the printed edition of the C&C Handbook is added in.
There’s a jump again, this time to $55, and a host of pledge items; the Players Handbook, Keepers Guide, Monsters & Treasure, GM Screen, Beneath the Canopy Guide and Barsoom: A Pocket Atlas to the Dying World all in PDF.
Backers pledging $99 get all the PDFs as before, and now, the printed edition of the C&C Handbook has been added back in.
At $175, the print editions of Monsters & Treasures, Keepers Guide, Barsoom, Beneath the Canopy Green and C&C Screen join the PDFs. Multiple copies are unlocked at $245.
There are leather-bound hardback editions of the Player’s Handbook, Monsters & Treasure and Keepers Guide, which swap out the regular physical books at $300.
Troll Lord Games say they can ship all this by the end of this year. The Kickstarter campaign runs until July 11th.
