Since I’m a day late for this poll, let me try to make it up with some tips I’ve learned over the years for a regular game.
Tips on ensuring your D&D gaming group meets often and on schedule
- Establish a Regular Schedule: Decide on a consistent day and time that works for everyone. This could be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Please put it on everyone’s calendars and treat it like an important appointment.
- Communicate Openly: Encourage open communication about scheduling conflicts or changes in availability. Life happens, so be flexible and understanding.
- Set Reminders: Use a group chat app or shared calendar to send reminders before each session. This helps keep the game at the forefront of everyone’s minds.
- Have Backup Plans: If someone can’t make it, have a plan in place. This could involve a pre-written side quest for a smaller group or a virtual tabletop platform for remote play.
- Keep it Engaging: Make sure the game is exciting and engaging, with everyone getting involved. A compelling storyline, interesting characters, and challenging encounters will motivate players to prioritize the sessions.
- Be Flexible with the Format: If scheduling is consistently challenging, consider shorter or more flexible game formats. You could try one-shots, mini-campaigns, or even play-by-post games.
- Celebrate Milestones: Celebrate completing story arcs or reaching character milestones. This creates a sense of accomplishment and shared experience that encourages continued participation.
