Here in Scotland, kids in Primary 5 are around 9 and 10 years old. It’s Primary 5 class “M” at Ferryhill School in Aberdeen, which has designed an RPG called “Peckers”.
“Peckers” as in… birds. They’re asking for £500 and have a month to raise it. You can see progress or support the clever class on Kickstarter
Cute, right? An RPG about birds. Not so fast!
These are animatronic birds, and if you’re thinking Five Nights at Freddy’s, then you’re on the right track.
An evil experiment forced onto the Peckers by their creator means that the robot birds no longer trust people. Now these Peckers roam Earth, fighting off humans and searching for more of their kind.
The gameplay has one person, the Pecker, who is trying to catch and scratch the other players. These players, known as Survivors, have to stay in the game until the timer runs out to win.
Led by Mr MacDonald of P5M, “Peckers” is described as a game for kids 7 to 11 and it encourages teamwork, strategic thinking and creativity. If only we could get young kids taught critical thinking too, eh?
You will receive one softcover copy of ‘Peckers’ which explains the premise of ‘Peckers’, explains how to set up and play a game, gives an introduction to the Peckers and has 3 pages dedicated to each Pecker telling you everything you need to know. There are also descriptions of NPCs (characters who appear in the story) and special Survivor Abilities to choose from. The book is 122 pages long and we’ve worked really hard on it.
Backers who pledge £5 or more support the class of P5M and receive a PDF copy of the game for print and play.
At £10, backers get the softcover instead, which is printed on 150gsm gloss paper.
It’s as simple as that. If the project is successful, the suggested delivery date is September 2024. The campaign runs until August 18th.
