It’s been over a year of me being an editor of Geek Native, and I’ve wanted to mark my 500th post for quite some time now, because to me it feels like a big deal. Iono, I just like to mark these things, and usually I forget to look until I’ve passed it (like I did at 300 and 400), so I’m also feeling proud of myself, okay?.
I feel like I’ve learned a lot over the past 500 posts, such as Big Heckin’ Two-Day Prime Day lessons, the surprising things (some) readers can get peeved about, how to stop disappearing title tags, and a hecka lot more!
But for my 500th post, I wanted to mark it by doing something a little bit self indulgent, and that means going over 10 of my favourite posts for Geek Native so far. So, in no particular order, here they are.
The best and worst of Attack on Titan [from someone who’s just binge watched the entire series]
I’m still utterly obsessed with Attack on Titan (maybe no-one’s been as surprised as Girdy), and may even be taking my time rewatching it knowing what I do now about the story and the characters.
We’re giving them ideas [thoughts on the potential of an AI uprising]
One thing you’ll learn about me, is that I’m often a catastrophiser, and I don’t have a lot of hope for the human race – but I would still like to be proven wrong.
Superhero Week: Which superhero could protect us from the AI uprising?
Ah, I had some real pep for superhero week last year. It feels like hardly any time has passed, but with superhero week 2024 just finished, I wasn’t able to do anything near as cool as this post. It just kind of snuck up on me! Oh well, I’ll be prepped for next year.
Picard’s been in the Nexus this whole time – don’t believe it? Fight me
I’d been a fan of The Picard Theory (which I thought at the time was an original idea) ever since the TNG world started to get a bit fucked up – in other words, well before Picard the series.
HOWEVER, when Picard the series came out, and I realised how much I absolutely despised it, I was keen to jump right back in and extend my article on my theory that actually, Picard has never left the Nexus, and everything that’s happening now can be explained as Picard’s Nexus Fantasy.
If you feel the same way as me, then maybe this will make it all better. Y’welcome!
The best and worst of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ series
This is one that was actually previously published elsewhere, and needed a new home – and it’s actually still one of my favourite articles, so of course I’m sharing it here. The Dark Tower will always have a special place in my heart, and if it doesn’t in yours, then maybe you’ve forgotten the face of your father.
Everything that was terrible about ‘The Dark Tower’ movie
Spoiler: other than the casting, there was nothing that wasn’t terrible about The Dark Tower movie. I’ve listed everything in this article because I’d never been so furious about a film in my life, before or since. In fact, I’m still not over it.
Exclusive interview: Connor Ratliff talks Edinburgh Fringe, ‘Star Wars’ and where Disney went wrong
I really really enjoyed this interview I had with Connor Ratliff last year at the Edinburgh Fringe, and there are some really interesting moments. Take a read if you missed it.
Picard’s face is gone! Can you help? [Meme with hilarious responses included]
This was a really fun one, and one of the first I ever contributed to Geek Native. I should really post more of this type of content, because we need more things to laugh about right now – am I right?
Gamers finding dents in their heads from prolonged headphone use is nightmare fuel
I’m never going to forget about this as long as I live. This has left a none-physical kind of indent on my brain, and should serve as a warning to all gamers.
The Brian Butterfield soundboard we never knew we needed
Finally, this list wouldn’t be complete without the Brian Butterfield soundboard! How else are you going to get to hear ‘bon-bon-bon-bons’ at the press of a button? Again, y’welcome.
To sum it up…
Well, that was fun. I’ve also been inspired to write more thought pieces, and I have an idea for one RIGHT NOW that I’m probably too kersnackered to write until tomorrow. Until then, I hope you’ve enjoyed my 500th post, and thanks for humouring me.
Which types of posts would you like to see more of from me? Let me know in the comments, and I may or may not ignore you.
