I have fond memories of the steampunk and magic tabletop RPG Victoriana, which is back on Kickstarter. Cubicle 7 is still at the helm, and the goal is to fund a 5e version.
The D&D rule set in Victoriana is applied to a world of industrial London, with magic and technology getting along better than the social classes. The campaign is already 100% over target, and you can see progress on the funding page.
In 1887, Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee masks a society on the brink of transformation. Magic and technology clash, the old aristocracy crumbles as the working class seethes with discontent. Amidst this upheaval, bands of determined individuals emerge, dubbed “Irregulars” by the press. United by common goals, they dare to challenge the status quo, ready to fight for their beliefs as the world teeters on the edge of irreversible change.
As you’d expect, characters in the game are these Irregulars who might be from one side or another.
Victoriana adds to 5e social rules and investigation rules, with broader systems for conflict resolution.
The steampunk game adds gadgets, new classes, backgrounds, and suitable options for the setting.
Victoriana for 5th Edition is a rich and fantastical world in which you play Irregulars — Londoners who defy the social norms of 1887 and fight for a better London as you steer the course of history towards Order or Entropy.
Backers at €5 get access to the pledge manager, which means they can decide at the last minute whether they want to get anything through Kickstarter (or wait to see what happens at retail).
At €25, backers get a digital copy of the game and relevant stretch goals.
The physical book is added at €50, it comes with the PDF but shipping costs have to be factored in later.
In addition to the core rules, Victoriana: Dreadful Inquiries and Victoriana: Menagerie are available in a PDF-only tier at €60.
Then there’s a leap for backers to €123 (which is about £104) for the hardcovers of the three books.
At €175, the physical Victoriana becomes a collector’s Edition, and it comes with hardcover copies of the other books.
Sadly, there’s no sign of the usual excellent-looking dice strays from All Rolled Up, which always used to make Cubicle 7 Kickstarters tempting.
The physical books are slated for June 2025, the PDFs for December 2024, and the campaign runs until August 7th.
