Last year, tabletop designers Matthew Makak for their work on Room 51, C.A.S. Taylor and Yeonsoo Julian Kim for Women are Werewolves and watt for the RPG Cloud Empress in the Nonbinary Tabletop Award.
Why have such an award? It’s all about uplifting and celebrating nonbinary representation in tabletop games.
Last year, the winners took home cash prizes and were featured in a volume of the RPG supplement, the Cozy Companion.
The award will return this year with nominations open from August 1st, closing on December 31st, and with people encouraged to nominate themselves.
Once again, winners will be featured in the Cozy Companion and get a cash prize.
There are five categories in the Nonbinary Tabletop Award, and they are;
- Advocacy
- Art
- Content Creation
- Game Design
- Writing
Snowbright Studio, which runs the awards and publishes Cozy Companion, welcomes nominations for individuals and organizations of all genders whose work meaningfully supports and elevates the nonbinary community within tabletop gaming. Submissions will be judged on their representation, advocacy, and overall positive impact.
Carrie Linden, Communications Manager at Snowbright and organizer of the award program told the press:
I always say representation matters. It is so important to see yourself not only in the games you play but also in the teams that make them. By being present in the industry, we hope to pave the way for others to join us. I was blown away by not only the number of submissions we received for the Award last year but also the quality of work and dedication to activism and visibility being done by the nonbinary community. There is a lot of love and passion going into the content they are making and I can’t wait to see what is submitted this year!”
Judging begins on January 2nd and closes on the 10th.
