Everyone and their aunt will be going to see Deadpool & Wolverine this weekend, but did you know it was almost called something else?
Whilst promoting the film on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman revealed the original title was actually Deadpool & Friend! What were they thinking?!
I can see why people hated the original title; it feels really off piste compared to the tone of what we’ve seen of the film so far. The following quote from Reynolds explains how the title change came about: (via GamesRadar)
The title leaked and we looked at it and listened [to the fans]. And they fucking hated that title. We were not feeling so good about that anymore.
It went with the trailer we were showing, it was the perfect title for the first piece of materials we had out there. [Director] Shawn Levy… he and I had been sitting in the editing room and we called everybody at Disney and Marvel and said, ‘We have to change the title.’
We wouldn’t take no for an answer. We’re like, ‘We’re changing the title. I will never call this movie Deadpool and Friend!’ And they did it. They literally changed the title.
Big props to them, as I’m fairly confident it must have been a big effort from all involved to switch things with so little time before the drop – it was definitely worth it, though!
Deadpool & Wolverine is released this weekend, and it’s going to be EPIC.
