With shows as… ‘strong’ (get it?) as House of the Dragon AKA Big Dragon House, of course there are going to be challenges, like making sure the big season finale doesn’t leak before it’s supposed to, for example.
And HoTD seems to be plagued by this particular problem – although, according to HBO, it does seem like it was initially an honest mistake.
On Tuesday/Wednesday morning (depending on where you are), it became clear 14 clips amounting to around 30 minutes of the finale had been uploaded to TikTok – of all places! The account has since been banned, but you just know those clips are still circulating on TikTok and other social media websites.
So, what was the cause? Well, according to HBO‘s statement in response to the leak, it was “an unintentional release from an international third-party distributor.”
We are aware that clips from the ‘House of the Dragon’ season finale have surfaced across social media platforms. The clips were posted after an unintentional release from an international third-party distributor. HBO is aggressively monitoring and removing clips from the internet, and fans can watch the episode in its entirety this Sunday night on HBO and Max.
Hmmm. Alrighty then. I suppose these things do happen, and human error seems to still account for a lot these days. The first season finale of House of the Dragon also faced leaks, along with a few episodes of Game of Thrones.
For fans that desperate to see the first 30 minutes of the show, I suppose they can fill their boots, but I for one will be waiting until the official release (and will watch it on Monday morning here in the UK via Sky Atlantic).
Not gonna lie, I’m mostly terrified for all the dragons, including Granny Vinegar the kin-murderer.
What do you make of these leaks – and how did they get onto TikTok, anyway? Who IS the third party, and does it even matter at this stage? Discuss.
