Musician Ginger Root has a series of music videos that combine to tell a slice-of-life story that could be adapted into a live-action anime.
I wasn’t familiar with the band before, but they described the music as “aggressive elevator soul”, which caught my attention.
The action kicks off nicely after Ginger Root’s Cameron is fired for wanting to make anime.
Firing Ginger Root over anime
Here’s the trailer.
The videos to date
The album will be called Shinbangumi, and that’s due out in September. We’re expecting eight videos in total.
In the first video, “No Problems,” we watch Cameron get fired and then try to make something himself in defiance of Juban TV.
Next up, in typical anime style, the team assembles to try its first challenge. Will it be a complete success? The single is called “All Night”.
In the most recent video, “There Was a Time”, the team now has a budget for one actress and attempt project Overdrive Academy.
Who are Ginger Root
Ginger Root is only Cameron Lew in the studio, but the band expands when they’re on tour.
Hailing from Huntington Beach, California, Ginger Root draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists like Vulfpeck, Toro y Moi, White Denim, Yellow Magic Orchestra, and Feist.
The band has been making waves, opening for renowned acts like Khruangbin, Hippo Campus, Omar Apollo, and Last Dinosaurs. Their energetic performances and infectious tunes culminated in a successful headlining tour in the winter of 2022, featuring support from King Pari, Vicky Farewell, and Amaiwana.
We’re expecting the next video this week, but there’s a teaser for it already.
