There are about 70 days until Halloween. That’s enough time to read a tabletop RPG and pen an adventure, right?
DriveThruRPG has launched a sale for Cosmic Horror and Cthulhu Mythos, which is the usual double-feature with some headline bundles.
Let’s look at those bundle deals offering 50% off.
- Hellboy RPG Collection – Join the B.P.R.D. and investigate the occult! Explore, hunt clues, discover artefacts, and battle terrifying enemies.
- Masks of the Mythos Collection – The ancient and unknowable Mythos, a slumbering horror, manipulates events from the shadows, using mortals as pawns in their incomprehensible schemes.
- Tiny Cthulhu Collection – Face cosmic horror with TinyD6’s classic ruleset! Experience the terrifying mysteries of Mythos stories inspired by Chambers and Lovecraft.
- Regency Cthulhu Collection – Cosmic horror invades Jane Austen’s England! Uncover Tarryford’s ancient, twisted secrets as they threaten to unleash chaos upon the unsuspecting countryside.
- Achtung! Cthulhu Starter Collection – Join the Secret War, a thrilling RPG blending Lovecraftian horror with WWII action!
- Never Going Home Bundle – In the horror-haunted trenches of WWI, the veil between worlds has torn, unleashing dark forces. Never Going Home is a party-focused RPG where players grapple with power, humanity, and survival in a war unlike any other.
What’s actually selling?
I’ll call out the exception first and raid the hottest algorithm DriveThruRPG uses. The exception, in number 3, is the exceptional Delta Green.
Born of the U.S. government’s 1928 raid on the degenerate coastal town of Innsmouth, Massachusetts, the covert agency known as Delta Green opposes the forces of darkness with honor but without glory. Delta Green agents fight to save humanity from unnatural horrors—often at a shattering personal cost.
In Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game, the players are those agents. They fight to save human lives and sanity from threats beyond space and time. Delta Green’s percentile-based rules are compatible with 20 years’ worth of Delta Green scenarios and sourcebooks.
You might not be surprised by what else dominates the top five. In order from best selling first, they are ALIEN RPG Core Rulebook, ALIEN RPG Colonial Marines Operations Manual, ALIEN RPG Heart of Darkness and ALIEN RPG Destroyer of Worlds.
Alien: Romulus just hit cinema screens and was reviewed fairly well, so that must be helping the ALIEN RPG sales.
In Alien: Romulus, a group of young space colonists seeking a better life embark on a scavenging mission to a derelict spacecraft. Their hopes for escape are dashed when they encounter the terrifying Xenomorphs, forcing them into a desperate fight for survival against the universe’s deadliest predator.
If you’re looking for help running a horror game, Ben and the Genre Police have lots of helpful information on Oh the Horror! and Revenge of the sub-genres, two good starting points. I’d recommend Warning, Content, too.
The horror RPG deal runs until the end of August.
