We’ve seen attempts to bring the collect, train and strategically match aspects of Pokemon to a D&D style world with high fantasy monsters before and yet I’m not sure any spring readily to mind.
Dungeon in a Box is through $250,000 on Kickstarter for a 5e Kickstarter that does just that.
The LA-based Kickstarter even leads with “Embark on a Journey to Catch Them All!”
Flirting with lawyers isn’t the only thing Dungeon in a Box are offering as there are two hardcover books, monster cards, binders and other merch on offer.
The monsters in this 5e setting are wildkin. Collect 1670 wildkin and monster cards, with more unlocked with stretch goals. After that, use your wildkin to battle (most) 5e monsters. The wildkin evolve.
How do you battle? One key stage is the new Monster Trainer Class, which, yes, unlocks badges and has spells and magic items. Maybe one is a ball?
Summon your collected wildkin companions into battle, and leverage strategy to win!
Wildkin have unique powers you can call on – battle commands! Shatter the earth, unleash flame blasts, and more by using your wildkin’s special abilities.
Wildkin training is also compatible with creatures from any 5e sourcebook. Capture nearly any monster and train it as a wildkin to discover its creature type and unlock its unique battle commands!
The digital monster trainer is the first tier that rewards backers. Back at $45 or above and you’ll get PDFs of the Monster Trainer Handbook Core Book and Legends of the Primal Isles Campaign. There are digital stretch goals, too.
At $55, the reward tier is the physical and PDF editions of just the Monster Trainer Handbook Core Book, and at $69, the rewards are the physical and PDF editions of Legends of the Primal Isles Campaign.
Backers who can step up to $89 get both physical and digital editions.
The Game-Ready Collection is nearly as popular but at $179. It offers both digital and physical editions of books and 120 skinny minis with item and spell cards.
The All-In Tier is set at $325 and adds the card storage binder, skinny mini holder, trainer badge pins, GM screen, laminated dry-erase wildkin sheets and the primal affinity base pack.
Dungeon in a Box is running the campaign, which is x10 funded, until September 20th. The tiers are slated for a November 2025 delivery.
