We’ve made it through August. Thank you to everyone who coped with somewhat erratic posting schedules. We had Edinburgh’s festival season and convention season to cope with!
A special thank you to Geek Native’s Patreons, who offer a little cash every month. None of that money goes on tech; it all goes to commission articles and art.

Stars in Arcana
Since Tin Star Games is the September winner, I thought it might be fun to hit the internet and research different stars in Arcana. What’s arcana? Er, I guess I mean occult, mythicism, lightwork and that sort of thing, and presented here with fantasy worldbuilding in mind.
- Astrological Guides: The positions and movements of stars and constellations often serve as guiding maps for practitioners of the arcane arts. By interpreting celestial patterns, they can discern auspicious ritual timings, predict future events, and gain deeper insights into the cosmic forces at play.
- Sources of Power: Stars are sometimes thought to contain powerful energy that can be used for magical purposes. Certain rituals may involve harnessing starlight to enhance spells, enchant objects, or empower individuals with celestial abilities.
- Symbolic Representations: Stars often symbolize specific concepts or entities within arcane traditions. For example, a particular star might represent a deity, a magical force, or a cardinal virtue. These symbolic associations can inform rituals, spellcasting, and the interpretation of arcane texts.
- Navigational Tools: For centuries, seafarers and travellers have used celestial navigation. The stars also play a crucial role in guiding those travelling through the skies or exploring other realms. By comprehending the celestial map, magic practitioners can navigate the expanses of the magical universe.
- Omens and Portents: In the mystical world, sudden appearances of comets, meteor showers, or other celestial phenomena are often seen as signs or warnings. These occurrences could signify upcoming changes, caution of potential threats, or announce the emergence of influential beings.
- Celestial Beings: In certain mythologies, stars are linked with celestial beings like angels, spirits, or deities. These beings could act as intermediaries between mortals and the divine realms, providing guidance, protection, and even granting boons to those who seek their favour.
- Cosmic Connections: The stars are often seen as a reflection of the interconnectedness of all things in the universe. Arcane practitioners may believe that by understanding the stars, they can better understand themselves, their place in the cosmos, and the underlying patterns that govern reality.
