You can already get Tanya Floaker’s Tiny Spaceship game from Itch.io, so why is the game designer at Tabletop Scotland this weekend launching a Kickstarter campaign for it?
Tanya, a parent with a low-paid part-time job, has earned a scholarship to Big Bad Con. The goal is to have a case of small-scale Scottish publisher games and use the big con to spread the love.
The good news is that Tanya insists on making digital files for games free and that crowdfunding has reached its goal. You can see the tally or join in on the pitch page.
I have fond memories of Batteries Not Included, and that’s good news as the movie is one of the style inspirations mentioned in the Kickstarter. Ponyo, Space Jungle and Robo Story are among the others.
The game needs between 3 and 5 people, about 2 hours, tokens and some empathy!
The tokens are part of the rewards, with partner Warbases providing some backers with circular MDF tokens of flying spaceships.
The game itself lives up to half of its name. It can’t fly between the stars, but it is small, fitting into only four A5 quality pages—and by quality, we’re talking 400gsm gloss paper.
Backers at just £1 will get a digital copy of Tiny Spaceship (community copies are free).
The physical game, which comes with the PDF, costs a little more, and the step-up is only £3. Alternatively, you can get a flying spaceship sticker and a PDF.
If you want both the physical Tiny Spaceship game and the sticker, with the PDF added for free, then you’ll need £5 in backing.
The tokens from Warbases unlock at £10, and an actual play experience with Tanya boosts the tier to £75.
Importantly, you can always pledge more and support an indie publisher to go spread the love.
Tanya estimates the delivery of Tiny Spaceship for November. The Kickstarter runs until October 1st.
