Hot off the heels of the first official A Minecraft Movie trailer, a fan has gone ahead and animated the whole thing shot-for-shot. The trailer, available to watch on YouTube, has made us wonder why they didn’t just do this in the sodding first place!
I think it actually looks a lot more watchable than the CGI/live-action mesh-up they’ve got going on, but maybe I’m just biased because I have to watch Jack Black, well… being Jack Black. I vote for a re-do!
Check out the trailer below:
Isn’t that not only neat, but also hella impressive? A massive well done to Alumio on this.
And, just in case you wanted to refresh your memory (or you maybe hadn’t seen it yet), here’s the original to compare with:
The official synopsis reads:
Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival! Four misfits—Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.
To get back home, they’ll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.
And you’ll be able to watch the less impressive (but official) version of A Minecraft Movie when it’s released on 4th April, 2025.
What do you think of the fan-made trailer – do you prefer it to the original? And if so, why? Let me know your thoughts in the comments (and don’t come for me about the Jack Black comment).
