Beadle & Grimm’s Pandemonium Warehouse, charmingly described as the mid-life crisis of five D&D players, is funding a D&D book based on the Adventures show “Faster, Purple Worm! Everybody Dies“.
It’s the circle of life as D&D gave birth to the comedy show, which has now given birth to the book, and everyone dies. The Kickstarter wraps on the 26th, and has hit target already.
The Kickstarter story says that if you’re in the US, you can watch Faster, Purple Worm! Everybody Dies on Plex. I’m not. Plex rings a bell, and I clicked on the link anyway. I got redirected to the /en-GB/ URL version of the show. I can see it gets an excellent rating, but I can’t watch it. Frustratingly close.
This crowdfunded D&D book features deadly adventures inspired by the TV series and brand-new quests. Characters in these unpredictable journeys are four brave 1st-level characters facing epic D&D monsters.
The adventures always end in an epic monster slaying the would-be heroes and are crafted by the show’s DMs and renowned writers. Contributors include Jasmine Bhullar, Kailey Bray, Jon Ciccolini, Matthew Lillard, Sarah Madsen, Bill Rehor, Charlie Rehor, Brian Suskind and Kate Welch.
How did Faster, Purple Worm! Kill! Kill! become a show in the first place?
The idea for Faster, Purple Worm! came together a few years ago. We’d been talking about doing a streaming live-play show for a while, but we didn’t want to go head-to-head with the titans of the space by doing exactly what they were doing – plus, we just didn’t have the bandwidth to take on producing a 3-hour show every week. So we focused our attention on trying to make the live-play format shorter, more action-packed, and more manageable… but how? The answer, at least for us, was: “Why not just kill everyone?”
Backers at $25 will be rewarded with a PDF version. Interestingly, Beadle & Grimm’s are adding VAT and saying they will. In the UK, that would mean they’re large enough to be a VAT-registered company and are selling you a product or service. How does that contrast with Kickstarter’s insistence that this is not a retail exchange?
At $40, backers get a PDF and a printed version of the book with shipping and taxes to be added in the pledge manager.
The alternative cover, showing a Beholder who looks less than pleased to be there, is the reward at $60. Collectors can get the PDF and both print covers at $90.
There’s an autographed version of the alt cover at $140. Who signs the book? All five of Beadle & Grimm’s founders, which means movie star Matthew Lillard. At $150, the reward offer expands to include a d20 and a collectable coin.
The perks go higher at $225. Backers also get a ‘Zoom Town Hall Experience’ with all five founders.
Beadle & Grimm’s estimate is a June 2025 delivery date.
