Dragonmount Press have found success on GameFound with a crowdfunding campaign for a gory and fast-paced zombie RPG. Zombie Road is a game where you play yourself and try to survive.
The campaign has hit its goal of €8,000 and the backers are still shambling in! You can follow progress on the GameFound project page.
You play as yourself, and one of you is a traitor. That really is an uncommon and exciting pitch for a TTRPG.
Geek Native has permission to share the Zombie Road character sheet and one page of rules, but please note the game is still in development and might change.
Zombie Road aims to create a road movie of death set in locations you’re familiar with. In my case, I imagine I might have to leave the safety of Geek Native tower on the edge of town, make it through Leith docks safely (a challenge at the best of times), and perhaps risk cutting along Seafield (I predict mutants at the treatment works), into Portobello and out away from the city that way. The old tunnels and train paths (we do have those) are a risk to consider, but I’d have to fight through if there are zombies in there.
The game system uses d6, and players must get six or more to succeed. That’s a challenge! A roll of 5 can be upgraded but at the cost of endurance points.
Combat requires spending points, and once again, the game becomes more about quick resource management and luck.
Who hasn’t dreamed of wielding a shotgun-axe or a flamethrower-chainsaw in the face of a zombie onslaught?
Well, the Zombie Road RPG, your wildest fantasies become reality! Let us introduce you to a world of insane weaponry and outlandish combos – it’s crafting time.
I’m not sure I have the same fantasies as the Dragonmount Press team but I do appreciate the prices on their pledge tiers.
Backers at €3 get some art and those who step up to €15 will get the corebook in PDF. The art is due this month, but the book in January 2025. Sorry, Halloween.
At €17, there’s a nice touch! You get the black and white corebook, the PDF, and a built-in donation to the WWF. In fact, €2 will be sent to the WWF in Hungary.
The extended print edition with extras is the reward at the €35 tier, and then at €35, there’s the digital deluxe edition. The print edition, complete with special content, unlocks at €55.
There’s a retailer pledge and two boss-level tiers at €200 and €450.
GameFound doesn’t translate these Euro amounts to GBP, which might be wise given how much the currency markets can flux between now and then.
This all-or-nothing crowdfunder runs until the 9th of October and has stretch goals.
