In July, Green Ronin, the publisher of the official The Expanse RPG, announced a new backwards compatible edition.
The Transport Union edition quickstart is out, and it’s a free download via DriveThruRPG.
The Expanse RPG is powered by Green Ronin’s AGE system, which has been featured in titles like the official Dragon Age RPG.
Green Ronin’s second edition of The Expanse RPG shifts the timeline to the Transport Union era. This period, spanning 30 years between the sixth and seventh books in the series, still needs to be explored in the source material, providing ample narrative opportunities for players.
While the core mechanics and character creation process remain consistent with the first edition, this new iteration expands upon the setting’s lore. Players can expect detailed information on the Transport Union era, updated rules, ship profiles, and technological advancements. This allows both new and returning players to delve deeper into the intrigue and adventure of The Expanse universe.
The Expanse RPG allows players to embark on adventures within the detailed solar system of James S.A. Corey’s novels. This future setting depicts humanity’s expansion across the solar system and beyond to over 1300 worlds accessible through the Ring Gates.
The protomolecule’s discovery and the Ring Gates’ subsequent creation have drastically altered the political and social landscape. The solar system has been destabilised by numerous conflicts and wars, with Earth bearing the scars of asteroid impacts orchestrated by a radical faction of the Outer Planets Alliance (OPA).
Despite these challenges, a new era of hope emerges with the rise of the Transport Union. Born from the Free Navy Conflict, this organisation grants the Belt and Outer Planets equal standing with the Earth-Mars Coalition, potentially leading to a more equitable future.
The quickstart is just 28 pages long and is tailored to give gamers a sample of the new edition and the game. The rules are condensed, and there’s an adventure to play. The full rules have character generation.
