Notion Builds has funded a metallic cube that rolls like a dice and on which you can swap the faces around. That’s what the magnetic tool is used for.
However, plot twist, you can also spin the die’s face to use the d6 as a different value. The campaign has hundreds of backers, is racing towards $65,000 in pledges and runs all the way up to 1st November. You can see progress on Kickstarter.
You have to get quite far down the pitch for the Neo Cube before Notion Builds even uses the word ‘dice’. When it does so, it shows the various spinner options they have. These spinners don’t have to have numbers, though, and some samples include;
- Weapons
- D&D alignments
- Fate Dice
- Zodiac (Chinese and Western)
- Elder Futhark symbols
- Weather
Otherwise, Notion Builds prefers the phrase ‘spinner’ for the Neo Cube and ‘disc’.
The premise is that the Neo Cube is the ‘dice to rule them all’ and can be used in board games, D&D and TTRPGs. Hmm! I presume there is no sleight on D&D intended. The other pitch is that the cubes can be fidget spinners, and perhaps Notion Builds could have thought a bit more about extending the use case into life counters, artillery direction dice, or even playing card selectors. There are blank spinners available, though, as well as custom options.
There are early bird tiers in action, so let’s look.
The first reward tier has two dozen cubes left and is a ‘super early bird’ which gets you one of the stainless steel thingies for $85 and the Refacer magnetic to boss the faces around.
There are still ‘super early birds’ for similar but better metal die, stopping at $115 for copper.
Then you get two stainless steel cubes at $159, and the pattern repeats for up to $219.
Alternatively, backers like the idea of getting one of three metals for $249. It requires a pledge of $449 for two of each.
We don’t yet know what/if tiers will be available if these sell out before the end of the campaign. Notion Builds estimates delivery will be in March of next year.
