With Halloween coming up, I’ve been nosing around spooky dice like the giant Eyes of Chaos and stumbled on Doldols’ Chest Mimic D20s.
Firstly, I can’t accuse Doldols of being a dropship because the RPG accessory maker is upfront and overt about being based in China. They offer free worldwide shipping. However, the Scam Detector notes that the site lives near some dodgy ones.
Okay, paranoid e-commerce investigating will now give way to dangerous-looking dice jaws!
Doldols say that the dice are made from resin and are an inch in height, width, and depth. You can’t roll these, but they’re a gift or are used for the D&D ambience.
Do the mimic dice have any in-game use?
- Mimic Dice: The most obvious use! Have in-game dice that are actually mimics in your D&D game. Players will be wary of picking them up!
- Cursed Items: These dice could represent cursed artefacts that whisper temptations or influence rolls.
- Boss Loot: Defeat a creature with multiple eyes (a beholder, perhaps?), which are part of its hoard or support minions.
- Counters/Tokens: Use them to represent anything from accumulating madness to the number of souls consumed by a villain.
One apparent buyer, Bryanna, calls their purchase “It’s so cute”. I’ll leave you to decide whether that’s the phrase you’d use.
