Good news for classic comic and horror fans today, as we’ve learned that facsimile editions of Golden Age horror comics are going to be on their way to Kickstarter via new publisher Authentic Editions, with Speakeasy Comics owner and head of licensing at Macroverse Adam Fortier leading the project.
Since ending up in the public domain, it’s no real surprise that we’re now seeing editions of classic issues such as Chamber of Chills and Suspense getting the facsimile treatment.
Authentic Editions seem to be following Marvel and DC‘s lead with classic comic reprints, although it’s possible these new Kickstarter editions may skip the more traditional comic shop sales, and only target direct buyers.
Here’s the list of classic pre-code horror comics planned for facsimile reprints so far:
- Suspense Comics #3, #8, #11, #12
- Punch Comics #12, #9
- Chamber of Chills #19, #23
- Weird Mysteries #4, #5, #6, #12
- Weird Chills #1, #2, #3
We’ll see how this new trend of cashing in on golden oldies continues to develop – and it’ll be interesting to see whether these latest releases skip our local shops completely.
