Yesterday, eagle-eyed Warhorners will have noticed an email announcing the Organized Play Foundation (OPF) is now sponsoring Warhorn, which will have a key role to play in OPF’s mission to support the gaming community.
‘Sponsoring’ seems like an interesting word choice, as upon a little more research (which wasn’t hard) it seems Warhorn’s founder is “handing it off”, with the OPF now becoming responsible for Warhorn’s operations.
According to the email from volunteer-run 501c3 OPF:
“With Warhorn and the generous support of people like you, we hope to promote the joy of roleplaying games and make our gaming community more vibrant and connected. The OPF will foster inclusivity by never charging players for using Warhorn, which will remain a platform-neutral and ad-free site. Any player who uses Warhorn or wants to join in the future will have their data protected and will never be monetized for corporate interest. It is important to us that Warhorn remains accessible and a safe place for our community to connect.”
The OPF is currently on a mission to build and support a community of roleplaying gamers, encouraging them to play, form friendships and have adventures in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.
Brian Moseley, who founded the event management platform Warhorn over 20 years ago, said he was “happy to have this opportunity to hand off Warhorn to an organization that will sustain it in a way that matches [his] values.”
So, with the OPF now taking responsibility for Warhorn, what can Warhorners expect from here on in?
According to the OPF’s website:
“We will foster inclusivity by never charging players for using Warhorn and will remain a platform-neutral site. Any player who uses Warhorn or wants to join in the future will have their data protected and will never be monetized for corporate interest. The OPF intends to keep Warhorn an accessible and safe place for our community to connect.”
It certainly doesn’t seem like a bad move, so hopefully it’s an arrangement where everyone will be happy – although, there’s a call for donations right now to help ensure the OPF can continue its mission to provide resources and experiences for its gaming community.
