The more we learn about Nosferatu, the more we’re expecting a far removal from the ‘sparkly’ vampires we’ve seen in pop culture of late.
And now with director Robert Eggers now saying we deserve a “scary, smelly corse again”? Well, we can be certain that Twilight, this is definitely not.
Speaking recently to Total Film, Eggers was quoted saying:
“We’ve gone all the way to Edward Cullen, where vampires are not scary. So how do we go in the complete opposite direction of that? Vampires were scary enough that people used to dig up corpses and chop them into bits and set them on fire.”
He added: “I think we deserve a scary, smelly corpse again,” and I couldn’t agree more. I hope that he delivers on that promise!
To be honest, I first read that quote from Eggers and thought “YES, EGGERS! BRING IT ON!” I am 100% here for this.
Starring Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok, the movie is set to take the vampire story back to its old-school gothic horror roots.
Here’s a refresher of the official trailer for you:
Eggers has previously said about the movie:
It’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie. And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.
And you’ll be able to watch Nosferatu when it’s released in cinemas on 25th December.
