Briar Sovereign found success with the indie TTRPG in which you push back against authority and so as a pilot of a steel-clad Astir.
The number one request has been for a physical edition of Armour Astir: Advent, and so the Manchester-based designer has turned to Kickstarter and found success. The crowdfunding campaign for the hardback of Armour Astir: Advent ends on the 30th and is approaching x3 funding. You can see if the game makes it.
The original game was released in 2022, and the new edition will come with a few extras thanks to the crowdfunder. There’s a poster and stick combo with every book. There are going to be dust covers with new wrap-around alternative art covers.
Briar and Snow will also be getting swords. That does not affect us, but it’s nice to know (unless there’s a zombie outbreak in Manchester, and you now know who might be able to protect you).
Armour Astir: Advent blends mecha anime with fantasy adventure. Using the Powered by the Apocalypse system, players pilot powerful magical mechs to combat an oppressive force. The game aims to capture the spirit of shows like Mobile Suit Gundam and Escaflowne, prioritising fast-paced narrative and exciting action sequences.
It is a game of rival pilots clashing in steel-clad Astirs, of soldiers holding their own against the odds, and of spies and diplomats twisting the world to their ends. It is not a game of careful preparation or pleasant truces;
It’s hard to change the world without taking a risk.
Backers who can pledge just £5 help the hardback come to life and are thanked with their own digital copy.
Those who can step up to £40, as hundreds have, get a copy of Armour Astir: Advent in hardback and digital, plus the stretch goals. The signed copies have sold out.
There’s a £180 tier for anyone who wants five copies, and that’s likely retailers unless there are gaming clubs or groups where having a personal copy is the done thing.
Briar Sovereign estimates delivery in March 2025.
