I admit it! I do like my spirits, not just the whisky you’d expect from a Scot, but my brandy, too. I have a set of shelves that combines drinks, complete with a decanter, with minis and a Skyrim dragon.
I don’t have this official Atari decanter set from Thumbs Up! It’s also on Amazon so maybe Cyber Monday will be kind!
It seems my geeky booze shelf isn’t as geeky as it could be and won’t be until my drinkware has a suitable level of geek cred. Thank goodness Thumbs Up! are on the case.
Not only do decanters look like joysticks when they can, but this set comes with two Atari-branded glasses. They’re made from borosilicate glass, and that’s especially good for its chemical stability, great for not leaching, and durability.
If you’re a pro, you’ll notice that this isn’t any old joystick design. This decanter brings to whisky-life the original CX-10 Controller. It was Atari’s CX-40, released in 1977, which became the industry standard. In part, that’s because the CX-40 was much cheaper than the CX-40.
In contrast, the CX-10 (which came with the 2600) was known for its sturdy build, and if I’m going to trust a decanter with an expensive bottle of spirits, that’s perfect for me.
