I was lucky enough to see The Twenty-Sided Tavern when it came to the Edinburgh Festival two years ago and to interview co-creator and (at the time) DM DAGL. Since then big thing have happened to the Tavern.
David is still involved, still on the cast and creative list, and now so are Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro. The Twenty-Sided Tavern now has permission to call itself the Dungeons & Dragons The Twenty-Sided Tavern.
It’s doing well!
Today’s news is that The Adventure Zone’s Travis McElroy will be joining. He won’t be staying but he’ll play The Trickster in seven special Thanksgiving week performances. That’s November 27 through to December 1.
Travis McElroy told the press;
You know, when I wished on a monkey paw that I found at a creepy curio shop to be able to play Dungeons & Dragons professionally, I never dreamed it would lead to performing Off Broadway,. And I’ll let you in on a secret: the shop owner told me the paw was cursed! But everything is going so well! What could go wrong!”
Executive Producer and Creator David Carpenter of The Twenty-Sided Tavern added,
We are so excited that we are getting the opportunity to play with the amazing Travis McElroy. His incredible storytelling and larger-than-life personality bring a whole new energy to our show. We can’t wait to see how his The Adventure Zone spirit and passion for D&D blend into the world we’ve built on stage. It’s going to be something truly special.”
At Dungeons & Dragons The Twenty-Sided Tavern, the audience actively participates as the “fourth player,” influencing the narrative through Gamiotics, a browser-based voting software. With a cast of five actors portraying over 30 characters, the show offers an immersive experience in the Forgotten Realms, filled with riddles, puzzles, and combat.
Audience choices shape the story, ensuring no two shows are identical. For those seeking further engagement, opportunities exist to join the onstage action and participate in games like trivia, charades, and Fantasy Beer Pong. The show features talent from productions such as Dimension 20 and Marvel’s Rogers: The Musical, offering a unique and interactive take on the beloved Dungeons & Dragons universe.
