When I was first offered a free review sample of a Warmies Bright Red Monster, I’d never actually heard of the brand Warmies before – but was attracted to their monster collection (which Girdy actually covered in a previous article).
Warmies are in the business of making snuggable, huggable and loveable (sometimes even wearable!) creations that you can stick in the microwave – hence where the ‘warm’ part in the name comes from. They also seem to make children’s books now to go along with some of the warmies they sell.
I’m a little late in writing this review (sometimes s*** happens), but it was just coming up to Halloween when I received my Warmies Bright Red Monster, which made him a wonderfully seasonal addition to my home!
First impressions of my Warmies Bright Red Monster
When my Warmies Bright Red Monster arrived, he was perfectly fluffy and showed up bright eyed and bushy… limbed. I was delighted by his shiny little yellow horns, and he smelled far more fragrant than I’d been expecting (again, as someone new to Warmies and who hadn’t properly done their research yet!).
He came with his own lovely label, including care instructions, and he was simply labelled as ‘Bright Red Monster’. That simply wouldn’t do, so I decided to call him Phlogiston (a fire-themed but unusual name!).
He feels weighted, in a good way, and filled with lavender goodness. He smells like lavender, because he’s supposed to – it’s meant to be a relaxing scent. I took a few moments to appreciate his weighted, smelly qualities whilst still at room temperature.
Then, it was time to get him settled in.
Giving my Warmers Bright Red Monster a house tour
Because it was so close to Halloween, and because I collect horror-themed posters, I reckoned I’d make Phlogiston feel right at home by giving him a tour of the house. Here he is pictured with my poster of the Grady Twins from The Shining (below):
I did feel like I had a bit of a responsibility to make sure Phlogiston felt at home before we got right down to business.
Iono, sticking him directly in the microwave just felt like it might be… rude?
Anyway, as you can see from my video on the right, he got a proper tour of the place, and appreciated my posters.
Microwaving my Warmies bright red monster
Sticking Phlogiston in the microwave for the first time felt a little strange – as I said, I’m new to this sort of thing!
Anyway, thanks to the detailed care instructions, I knew that for my 800W microwave, Phlogiston would have to go in for 90 seconds.
Not going to lie, watching him slowly spin around looking so happy did amuse me somewhat. You can see for yourself what that looked like in the video to the right:
Snuggling my Warmies Bright Red Monster
Once Phlogiston came out of the microwave, it was really time to put him to the test! I brought him upstairs to the living room with me (I have an odd layout of a house) and snuggled in to watch some TV with a cup of tea.
Phlogiston had no complaints regarding my entertainment choices.
The weighted, warm and fluffy feel of Phlogiston the Warmies Bright Red Monster was really quite lovely. To add to that, he smelled even more pungently of lavender, but not in an overpowering or unpleasant way.
I was beginning to understand why people do this. As I started to properly relax, I thought I could really get used to having a Phlogiston around (I just have to be careful to keep him away from my large monitor lizard, who has been known to claim fluffy stuffed toys as his own, and Phlogiston would not be ideal for that!).
Overall impressions
I’ve been very happy with Phlogiston as the latest addition to our household; so much so, that he can stay. He’s very polite, smells great, and pulls his weight by way of providing warmth and fluffy snuggles as and when you need them. What more can a girl ask for?!
