I know what you’re thinking; this isn’t Geek Native Daddy – where’s Daddy – I mean, Girdy? Indeed. This is Geek Native Mother, Bronwen Winter Phoenix, coming to you… from Hell. I mean, Gorgie. Could be worse, I could be in the United States of America fearing for my bodily autonomy right now.
Anyway, there is, of course, a simple explanation for my presence; Girdy is hardcoring it at Scotland Loves Anime, the coverage of which is being sponsored this year by Dusk Wave Arts. Thanks, Dusk Wave Arts! We’re having a fantoosh time.
Anyway, on with the podcast.
Sketchy Van RPG won the RPG Publisher Spotlight this month.
I’ll remind you that patrons get to vote, and here are the candidates for December. They are:
And if you haven’t already, you can check out the interview with Steve Hatherley, the October winner, which was published at the end of last month.
This week, Girdy was lucky enough to chat with Gareth Hanrahan, co-writer on Trail of Cthulhu, which is now three times over its goal on Backerkit – and with five days still left to go. There’s some really nice art featured on the blog, too, so check it out!
We were a little blown away here Geek Native when we were sent a video ad from Glasgow-based D&D group Fort-Knight Adventures!
Full disclosure; one of our friends is a DM for the group, but it got our attention because it’s just so well produced, and seems to perfectly capture the vibe we all aspire to have at a D&D session.
Moving on, and back to anime for a bit, Japanese audiences got to witness Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, in cinemas yesterday – with an added post-credits scene! Leading up to this, I decided to try and guess what would be coming… even Girdy had a go, and we were wrong, hopelessly wrong.
Apparently it was nothing to do with the actual plot, and all about the Attack on Titan School Castes. Which kinda sucks, but does feature Goth Mikasa, Nerdy Armin, and Normie Eren. I think our guesses were far more entertaining.
And from my favourite anime, to the worst anime I’ve experienced as a relative newbie so far, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge my review of Birth of Kitarō: The Mystery of GeGeGe.
What can I say, it really wasn’t for me. We’re talking grim, grim, grim all the way, with themes of murder, rape, incest, a touch of genocide, and more. A trigger warning or two would have been nice.
This isn’t the first grim anime I’ve walked at Scotland Loves Anime this year; Promare had fairly grim elements to it, but at the same time it also had fun, silly moments and it didn’t take itself too seriously.
For me, at least (and Girdy also said I hit the nail on the head), Birth of Kitarō felt like all the grimness of Promare but without any of the fun bits.
This week, we were also privileged enough to share a special preview of the upcoming comic book prequel to The Glove, entitled Forged of Fate. Girdy got to have a sneak peek at the unfinalised script, and share some fantastic development art to get excited about.
Now to the Bundle of Holding, and there’s only four days left on the Dracula Dossier, which Girdy covered earlier this week, and includes The NIGHT’S BLACK AGENTS rulebook and the ENTIRE Dracula Dossier line.
Also with fours days left, we have Dark Pictures and Little Nightmares Horror Collection at Humble Bundle. And six days left on Generation Zero: The Ultimate Resistance!
If you’ve liked this podcast, or if you’ve experienced this podcast and never want to again, get in touch and let Girdy know!
For now, this is Geek Native Mother signing off, and reminding you not to stay up too late. Unless there are any utter catastrophes, Girdy will chat to you – or at you – next week.
