With the cold growing teeth in Scotland and the Northern hemisphere, it’s increasingly tempting to huddle under the duvet with console controllers.
However, Mattress Online has cautioned against that. Don’t snigger, but the specialist retailer even suggested avoiding getting a “gamer bed” and reserving your bed for sleep.
They said;
Whilst it may be tempting to sit back, relax and game in the comfort of your bed, it’s important to reserve your bed solely for sleep. Turning it into a space for leisure can blur the lines between playtime and bedtime, making it harder to wind down and get quality shut-eye.
If you can, setting up your gaming station in a separate room instead of your bedroom is really helpful. You know how much time you can spend gaming, and investing in a comfortable, high-quality gaming chair can make a big difference in preventing back strain. Try draping a blanket over the chair as you wrap up your gaming session. This simple gesture can help signal to your body that it’s time to unwind and relax before bedtime.
As a note, “Gaming Beds” are also a thing, with integrated screens and storage. Presumably
Gamers should know their sleep type
Mattress Online also cautions against going against your internal body clock. Citing “Call of Duty” research, they said,
Whilst many believe you can only be either an early bird or night owl, the reality is your body can adapt based on how well you care for it. With almost a quarter (24%) of 14-21 year old gamers playing Call of Duty, they are more susceptible than most to becoming screen obsessed. However, with gaming taking a toll on sleep schedules, consistently sticking to a bedtime and morning routine is key for maintaining our natural rhythm.
If we ignore our natural sleep patterns, getting a good night’s rest can become difficult, and you might feel tired all day, similar to experiencing jet lag from travelling. This disruption can lead to problems like heightened stress and anxiety, which not only makes gaming less enjoyable but can also impact your everyday life.
Winding Down
Mattress Online finish its three tips by encouraging gamers not to leap from a high-octane game to bed. They want nearly an hour of downtime!
To ease into rest, give yourself 45 minutes to an hour to decompress. Taking a bath or shower can help lower your heart rate and relax you. Although, many believe devices should not be by the bedside, watching something trashy, funny or repetitive may help relax your body and prepare for a night of snoozing without negatively affecting your sleep quality.
