Jumping on the classic-cartoon-characters-horrifically-reimagined bandwagon, we have for you today, a red-band trailer for Popeye the Slayer Man.
In the movie, we follow the story of “a group of friends sneak into an abandoned spinach canning factory to film a documentary on the legend of the ‘Sailor Man’, who is said to haunt the factory.”
If you watch the trailer, you’ll see that this figure (played by Jason Stephens) looks like a semi-recognisable, but much cruder, less-friendly version of the popular character. He’s clearly still dressed as a sailor, despite being called ‘The Slayer Man’. And what the heck have they done with his voice?! Me no likey (but that’s probably the point).
Producer Jeff Miller said: “We can’t wait for audiences to get a load of this gory and scary version of Popeye. We went old-school and focused on using real practical effects, and not relying on CG for the gore. We’re talking with very enthusiastic and interested buyers now.”
Check out the official trailer below:
Also starring in Popeye the Slayer Man, we have Sean Michael Conway, Elena Juliano, Mabel Thomas, Marie-Louise Boisnier, Jeff Thomas, Steven McCormack, Angela Relucio (Code Black, The Cabining), and Sarah Nicklin (Nun of That, The Black Mass).
The film is apparently a co-production between Salem House Films, Millman Productions, Ron Lee Productions, and Otsego Media. No further details on a release yet.
