R. Talsorian Games, the publisher of The Witcher RPG and creator Cyberpunk RPG, will publish Shadow Scar next.
Today, the free to download, Shadow Scar Character Creation was made available via DriveThruRPG.
It’s not all good news. In the book’s electronic shelf there’s a note from Cody Pondsmith, the designer, has explained the core rules will be late.
Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to finish the Shadow Scar Core Rulebook in time for the planned PAX Unplugged release. There’s still plenty of beautiful art that we need to finish before we can release and we want this book to be as good as it can be.
In an interview with Dicebreaker, Cody said;
This will not be in the same kind of line as Witcher or Cyberpunk where it is a lot crunchier. It is intended to be something that you can pick up more quickly and play very, very quickly. Not fully rules-light, but a lighter experience.”
My ethos as a game designer, or what have you, is that the system informs the game. Whatever game you’re playing, the system will always give you the fundamentals of what the game feels like. I have often felt that a game should have a unique system if it’s going to have a unique feeling. So it diverged from Interlock pretty quickly, as I started to develop new ideas and things like that.
[There are] a few little tricks here and there that we’re putting in, specifically for this world and this system.”
Instead of using the Interlock system, the foundation for The Witcher and Cyberpunk games, Shadow Scar will employ a new system called the Mosaic system. This name reflects the game’s multiversal setting. The Mosaic system utilizes a dice pool mechanism that exclusively relies on six-sided dice.
