In Witcher lore, Ciri is known as the ‘Child Surprise’… and so, SURPRISE! In an entirely unexpected turn of events, CD Projekt Red have released a cinematic ‘reveal’ trailer starring the white-haired vixen herself as the main protagonist, during the recent Game Awards. And it’s quite something!
Despite there being no hint of gameplay on show, I really enjoyed this cinematic trailer. As soon as you press play, you’re transported back into the world of the Witcher, and local folk be local folkin’ just as hard as ever, it seems. But instead of Geralt having to deal with their s*** and sort out the monsters, this time it’s Ciri.
If you’ve been as much of a fan of Witcher 3 as I was, you’ll have been invested in this character; her wellbeing, the peculiar family unit she has going on with Geralt and Yen, and the love that Geralt feels for this strong, amazing young woman… it kind of rubs off on you.
So, to see Ciri taking up the gauntlet of witcher (which, if you played the last game right, hopefully you’ll have seen to fruition) is really heartwarming and quite exciting. Fans will, of course, be hoping there may be some quests featuring Geralt and Yennefer, too (or is it just me?).

Although we know nothing, absolutely nothing, about the game’s release date yet, we did spot a footnote at the bottom saying this trailer was pre-rendered in UE5 on an unannounced “NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU.” So, there’s that.
What do you think of the cinematic new trailer for Witcher IV? Are you excited? Are you, like me, wondering how in the heck you’re going to scrape together some time to play it? Comment below.
