Lin-Manuel Miranda apparently set out to prove critics – who claimed he “can’t write a villain song” – wrong by coming up with a kickass baddie tune for upcoming movie Mufasa, out this week.
The song itself has managed to perfectly capture The Lion King vibe, but with all the trademarks of a Miranda bangin’ tune, with its delightful, quick-fire wordplay.
Not going to lie, I was excited when I heard Miranda would be involved in this movie, because regardless of whether or not I like the film, I’ll still have some great new music for my iTunes library! And “can’t” write a villain song? Excuse me, have you heard the Moana song Shiny? That crab almost ate Moana!
The songwriter and actor recently spoke exclusively to Den of Geek and explained that he had to lobby for and really fight for this baddie tune to go into the movie. Watch the video below:
And you’ll be able to watch Mufasa when it’s released on Friday (20th December). Yeah!
What do you think of Bye Bye – do you see it being a good addition to Mufasa? (And yes, I’m aware people are rushing to listen to some of these tracks before even watching the movie just because Lin-Manuel Miranda)
