Looks like I might see Terminator Salvation or Transformers 2 after all. If they’re not available on Virgin on Demand (aka verging on the deranged) I’ll be able to get them via the PS3 and the PlayStation Network.
I’ve been able to download movies for a long while over Xbox Live. After watching one Batman animation I’ve never bothered to do it again. Why not? It takes an age. You have to download the whole thing (more or less) before you can start to watch whereas Virgin lets you start playing within seconds.
Unlike Xbox Live and iPlayer the PlayStation Network gives you the choice of renting (up to 14 days to watch it) or buying the download. If you buy it then you can transfer it (such as to PSP). There may be horrible right managements installed. Don’t know about that yet.
Worried that only Sony pictures will get behind this push? 20th Century Fox, Disney, Lionsgate, MGM, Paramount, Universal and Warners Bros are all already onboard. At this rate PSN Movies will launch before Hulu UK.
