Last year, Geek Native’s amazing patrons voted Sad Fishe Games into the RPG Publisher Spotlight.
As a result, the publisher will be featured each week in the Routinely Itemised TTRPG news roundup and the Audio EXP podcast. I’ll also try and get in touch and line up an interview.
I know we’ve only just made it into January but the patron-only poll for February is now live.
The candidates for February 2025 are:
Emotion monsters
I don’t yet know why Sad Fishe is called Sad Fishe, but I’ll ask, and I’ve been inspired to think of an emotion monster. Imagine characters bathing in an idyllic glade only to rapidly and dramatically become dangerously mournful. Would they rip up treasure maps as pointless or make other pessimistic decisions?
If that sounds unlikely, there is precedent – you could argue that sirens are ‘love’ monsters. Here are a few more ideas.
Rage Leech: Leeches want blood, right? So imagine a leech that, once attached to someone’s skin, also begins to make that person violently angry! How long before fresh blood was spilt into the swamp?
Shame Golem: A hulking, monstrous figure constructed from stolen items, thrown away love trinkets, discarded wedding rings and other items associated with moments of shame. It lurks in the shadows and its first attacks are verbal and designed to eat away at people’s confidence.
Hope Birds: Colourful and beautiful birds who sing out visions of brighter futures and promises of dreams fulfilled. Hope, though, is dangerous because sometimes these songs encourage people to pursue unattainable goals. The birds themselves feed on yearning.
