Designer Graham Gentz has published the cooperative story TTRPG Breaking the Vault of Viditya Voleti.
The game pitches “You’re not a nice person. Will you die that way?” and has players, as a group, create the story of doomed criminals forced into a suicide mission.
If that sounds bleak, there is some silver lining. Graham is donating 100% of sales to the Trans Youth Emergency Project. That’s an organisation based in the south of the USA that offers logistical and financial support to young transexuals. The group says that more than one-third of all LGBTQ+ Americans live in the Southern part of the country. However, just as we’re seeing elsewhere in the world, the (sometimes) religious right is taking power and is not tolerant. The website says;
Cruel laws banning best-practice gender-affirming care have passed in 25 states across the country – and as a result, thousands of transgender youth and their families are being forced to travel extreme distances and take on significant expenses just to get the care they need.
In Breaking the Vault of Viditya Voleti, the players begin by collectively agreeing on the genre and setting. The designer gives examples of “Assassination” or “Impersonate Leader” and then blends that with examples of “Deep Space” or “Diselpunk”.
The TTRPG lets players explore whether their characters can and should be redeemed. A Death Scene mechanic gives that player narrative control.
Once a PC is dead, the player, though, is still part of the game. Breaking the Vault of Viditya Voleti costs $6 from Itch.io.
