Crunchyroll have announced – and unveiled during CES in Las Vegas – a new manga app they’ll be adding as a premium subscription feature for fans of anime.
It’ll be a standalone app, offering digital manga from big-name publishers, will make its debut later this year in the United States and Canada, launching on iOS and Android.
The app will be called Crunchyroll Manga, and will be rolling out in English, with more languages added as the app expands to other countries.
Here’s what Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini had to say:
Crunchyroll Manga will be a premiere online manga app that carries catalogs from renowned publishers, offering fans unparalleled access to the visionary works that inspire the anime we love. As we strengthen partnerships in this exciting new venture, we aim to add even more value to the Crunchyroll membership, complementing our vast anime library, Crunchyroll Game Vault, and extensive selection of products in the Crunchyroll Store,” Purini continued, “Research shows that nearly 70% of anime fans read digital manga at least once a month, highlighting the immense demand for this medium. Crunchyroll Manga will not only meet this growing interest but also fuel the continued global popularity of anime and manga alike.
Although the streaming service had previously offered a manga app as a free benefit to its subscribers, this new and improved app is set to be bigger than ever, offering a diverse range of genres, including legendary titles and fan favourites.
You can sign up for a subscription now via Crunchyroll.com before the app becomes available later in the year… or, y’know, just wait until it’s out if you’re that way inclined.
