EDIT: This article originally published 21st January as a UK release date. This info was wrong, and the article has since been updated.
The trailer has dropped for a yet another new AI sci-fi thriller, in which everything goes a bit wrong. This one looks quite interesting, in that it appears on first glance the AI’s choice of warfare is purely psychological.
Renner stars Frankie Muniz, Violett Beane, Taylor Gray, and Marcia Gay Harden – who voices AI assistant, Salenus.
Here’s the official description:
Renner (starring Frankie Muniz), a reclusive computer genius driven by a need for control, designs an A.I. named Salenus to help him overcome his crippling social anxieties and find love. Encouraged by Salenus, Renner forms a connection with his alluring neighbor Jamie, but their relationship starts to unravel when she begins to interact with the A.I. As dark secrets and betrayals begin to surface, Salenus’s influence on Renner takes a malicious turn, leaving him entangled in the devastating consequences of his invention.
It’s good to see Muniz playing a role like this, and it seems like we’re going to get quite a wild performance. Watch the official trailer right here:
Directed by Robert Rippberger (The Hoodwink, Strive, Those Who Walk Away), and written by Luke Medina and Martin Medina, it’s certainly worth checking out.
Renner will be released in the United States on 7th February. I think I’ll go and see this one!
What do you think of the trailer for Renner – are you interested, or are you getting sick of AI-themed sci-fi thrillers? Will you, like me, mainly be watching for Muniz? Let me know in the comments.
