It’s two stories in one! Scotland Loves Anime has finally told us their 2024 Audience Award winner. It’s The Colours Within, which I’ve reviewed and liked.
The Golden Partridge (the Judges’ Award) has not yet been shared.

We’re finally finding out about The Colours Within‘s success for two reasons. Firstly, the 2025 festival has been announced.
- Glasgow Film Theatre: 31st October – 2nd November
- London Picturehouse Central: 7th – 9th November
- Edinburgh Cameo Picturehouse: 10th – 16th November
(Geek Native will be there, and you can sponsor us.)
Secondly, The Colors Within is coming to UK cinema. It hits the screens on the 31st of January, and there’s a cinema finder site to see if you have one near you.
The Colors Within is by director Naoko Yamada, who also did A Silent Voice, and is about a young woman with a form of synaesthesia who finds herself drawn to a school dropout and forming a band with her.
Anime LTD, the sponsor and enabler of Scotland Loves Anime, is the distributor, and I’ve no problem with them using the not-for-profit to test which anime has the best chances of being a cinema hit.
