Today we’ve got the first trailer for the thriller Locked, produced by Sam Raimi and starring Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu, IT) and Anthony Hopkins, following the current trend of malevolent, unhinged rich boomers taking things into their own hands (Heretic, anyone?).
The story goes like this: “When Eddie (Skarsgård) breaks into a luxury SUV, he steps into a deadly trap set by William (Hopkins), a self-proclaimed vigilante delivering his own brand of twisted justice. With no means of escape, Eddie must fight to survive in a ride where escape is an illusion, survival is a nightmare, and justice shifts into high gear.”
It’s been a while since (over 10 years) since a film has been released where the story takes place entirely (or almost entirely) in a car… and that thriller was Locke, starring Tom Hardy and written and directed by Stephen Knight of Peaky Blinders fame.
That’s one I actually interviewed Stephen Knight about in person in Los Angeles (and he mentioned at the time he was working on a series I failed to dig deeper about… that series was only PEAKY F*CKIN’ BLINDERS. Oh well. Live it, learn it!).
ANYWAY. You really wouldn’t want to confuse Locked with Locke, though, as one features a diligent soon-to-be father who has an intense car journey as he leaves the construction site he’s in charge of in the middle of a very critical concrete pour in order to be there for the birth of his child…
… and the other is this sadistic chaos-themed ride straight to hell, right here. They are VERY DIFFERENT FILMS and intensity levels. There’s responsible adult stress intensity, and then there’s ‘How many ways might I die in this car?’ intensity. Enjoy the trailer:
Question: Does anyone want to see me right a speciality stuck-in-a-car-themed film blog about Locke vs Locked – once I’ve seen this at the cinema?
Locked will be released in cinemas on 21st March – will you be watching?
