The Storymaster’s Tales are a series of gamebooks by Oliver McNeil, who’s levelled them up by also providing QR codes and narration.
The talent also drew all the illustrations and maps in the latest book, “Alien, Rogue, Robot,“ which supports solo or various group plays. The Kickstarter runs until the end of February.
There are eight Region X maps in Alien, Rogue, Robot, which can be played in any order. The player(s) are a team of, you guessed it, an alien, a rogue and a robot who are out for that exploration.
Oliver’s idea for the game came from a love of classic sci-fi, and since he’s British, that also means The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Doctor Who and Red Dwarf.
Players can design their own stats for their space team or use the pre-gennerated crew sheets.
This game has been designed to allow anyone to go on an adventure anywhere, at any time. Whether on a train, bus, camping or during a lunch break, you can open this book and enter a virtual world of adventure, one set in your mind’s eye. It can also be played with friends, family or solo, regardless of whether they have played a game like this. With multiple choices and random elements, you can make each time you play it different than before. You will also find QR codes to play soundscapes and narratives read by the author.

The PDF copy of this Storymaster’s Tales unlocks for Kickstarter backers who can pledge £10 or more to the project.
The softback, which is signed and comes with stretch goals unlocks just a little higher and at £14.
At £20 there’s a bundle of both of Oliver McNeil‘s map books; this and Cursed Forest.
Or, sticking just with sci-fi, the £24 tier unlocks the signed hardback.
After that, £26 and then £45 are the tiers at which the softback and hardcover bundles unlock.
Oliver McNeil estimates a June 2025 delivery for the project. As the writer has more than 40 campaigns in his name, he should have a good idea of what’s required!
