The Last of Us season two is looming, with the highly anticipated show set to return in April – however, it seems we’re already getting ahead of ourselves a little, with reports coming in that there may already be an endgame forming.
HBO’s Head of Drama Francesca Orsi has recently spoken out considering the series’ end game, saying it’s shaping up to be four seasons in length – but that nothing is concrete yet.
Speaking to Deadline, Orsi was quoted as saying: “We don’t have a complete or final plan, but I think it’s looking like four seasons. I wouldn’t want to confirm that, but it’s looking like this season and then two more seasons after this and we’re done.”
This latest tidbit of news ties in with what co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann had said last year when they let slip that telling the full story on-screen would likely take three or four seasons to achieve a satisfying end.
More detail has also come out about the series, such as the fact it opens up the world of Ellie and Joel, spreading the narrative far wider with new characters, multiple factions, and shifting perspectives – all of which makes for a very exciting prospect I definitely welcome!
Here’s what Orsi had to say:
There’s certain elements in terms of the various factions that are competing for survival that reveal themselves as a really intriguing survivalist group, and I think they just have a quality to them that feels distinct in how they present it. There’s a certain way [the show] is presenting them in wardrobe and makeup that feels really different than the average person.
I’m also super excited about Catherine O’Hara guest starring in a yet-to-be-confirmed ‘secret’ role! Not to mention Jeffrey Wright playing the role of Isaac.
There will only be seven episodes in this next season, but it sounds like there’s some serious groundwork being put in and some potentially amazing story to come. Roll on April!
