Magpie Games and Failbetter Games are working together on an official Fallen London tabletop RPG. The original game is a free, browser-based, literary RPG running since 2009.
The tabletop game is on Kickstarter, will be until March 13th and is nearly at $750,000 pledged. It’ll use the new Ædana system. You can see progress on the pitch page.
If you’re curious about Fallen London or Ædana then you can download the quickstart for free.
The Fallen London quickstart has a one-shot and sufficient core rule, special conflicts and pre-genned characters to run it.
The game is set in an alternative 1899, 40 years after London fell into a cavern. There are devils and tentacles on the streets. Mysterious figures known as Masters control the city’s commerce and the traitor Victoria is on the throne.
The cavern the city crashed down into is known as Neath, and when people die they come back to life.

Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game is a brand new way to experience the setting of Fallen London. Create your own characters and play together, telling your own inventive stories of London in the Neath! The tabletop roleplaying game supports approximately 3-6 players, with one taking on the role of a gamemaster responsible for portraying the world and adjudicating the rules, and the rest taking on the role of their own individual character. The game is designed for ongoing stories, as the characters pursue their goals and face the consequences of their choices.
Backers (and there are now over 1,000 at this tier) who support the campaign with a pledge of $29 get the PDF of the core book, the Guide to London supplement and some browser game perks as a reward.
At $59, which is about £47, backers get the hardcover copy of the core rules and PDFs of the supplement plus the new Benthic Kriegsspiel item for the browser-based game.
Those Fallen London supporters who pledge $99 or more will get hardcover copies of both books and the browser bonus.
The most popular tier, though, is $149, and that gets the hardcovers and PDFs of the two TTRPG books, a GM screen, a dice pack, physical and digital stretch goals, plus that browser item.
There’s a popular $299 tier, which also adds Neathbow Dice, a deluxe core book, and extra browser items.
The slated delivery date for the Fallen London TTRPG is August 2026.
