Y’know, I was just thinking the other day; ‘What’s Robert Llewellyn been up to lately?’ Now it appears my question has been answered – he’s launching a Kickstarter for an exciting new pilot episode called Zapheap, under his company Fully Charged Productions.
This is exciting. The former presenter of Scrapheap Challenge is finally, after many years, attempting to bring back the much-beloved show, but for the 2020s, allowing participants to create ‘electric-powered masterpieces’!

From the official description:
With two top-secret workshops, a team of world-class engineers, and a high-energy format, Zapheap is set to redefine what’s possible in the world of electric vehicles and sustainable engineering. Now, the Fully Charged team is ready to make it a reality. This campaign will raise funds to produce a pilot episode and a live Zapheap event, where audiences will witness the spectacle unfold in real-time.
Guiding Zapheap will be two industry-leading experts: Richard Morgan of Electric Classic Cars and Anne Kloppenborg of New Electric. With their help, two teams will race to build their electric-powered creations with just 10 hours on the clock!
The show will be filmed in a top-secret location, and is set to be produced with a strong emphasis on safety, creativity, and innovation.
Well, I for one think that sounds like a super fun idea. Check out the video below:
Assuming the campaign reaches its £250,000 goal, the first episode of Zapheap is set to be filmed in July, and then… who knows! I can easily see this doing well on the likes of Amazon Prime, though. Here’s hoping!
Supporters of Zapheap will have the opportunity to contribute to the project in exchange for unique rewards and exclusive behind-the-scenes access. You can check out all that via the Kickstarter campaign, which is live now.

Despite the above image, the Zapheap team are extremely insistent that safety is the most important thing, bringing in only the top safety experts to ensure everything’s done properly and that everyone’s in safe and experienced hands. (Yes, I’m being cheeky)
With 29 days to go, you can be one of the first backers for this Kickstarter campaign, and give Zapheap the jumpstart it needs to become a thing. Go on, you know you want to!
What do you think of the concept of bringing Scrapheap Challenge into the 2020s, with Zapheap? Will you back the show? Let me know in the comments!
